Parking Ticket Appeal Policy
Steps to Appealing UNCG Parking Ticket
If you have received a UNCG parking ticket and believe that it was issued in error, you may complete an appeal form electronically by following the instructions below. But first take the following test to see if you should proceed:
Take This Quiz
- Do you believe you were legally parked?
- Were you parked in a manner consistent with North Carolina law (ie. with the flow of traffic, within 1' of the curb)?
- Were you parked in a lot or area appropriate to your permit?
- Was the permit properly displayed?
- Is this your first UNCG ticket?
Have you carefully read the rules and regulations (available online and on the back of the UNCG Campus Parking Map) specifically regarding this offense?
If you answered "no" to any of the above questions, your chances of having your appeal granted are reduced. However, if you answered "yes" to the all the questions above, you should continue the appeals process.
The following reasons DO NOT warrant dismissal of a parking ticket:
- I was only parked for a few minutes
- I was the only one who got a ticket
- I did not know that I could not park there
- The meter was only expired for a minute
- I did not see the parking sign
- I drove around for a long time looking for a space
- I have never had a parking ticket before
- I left my flashers blinking
- Inclement weather
- I was late for a class/meeting
- I only drive occasionally
- A student/faculty/staff advised me to park there
- The lot was empty
- I was only loading/unloading
- I will never do it again
- Other cars were parked there
- It was the weekend/Fall Break/Spring Break/Summer/after 5 pm
- I am not from here, this city, and this campus
The owner and driver are responsible for the actions of the vehicle and bear the burden of proof when contesting parking tickets issued to it.
The Appeals Process
- Appeals must be filed with the UNCG Parking Operations Office within seven days of receipt of the citation. Appeals received after that time will not be considered.
- A board of your peers will review your appeal. You will receive notification regarding the outcome of your appeal within 2-3 weeks via e-mail.
- If your appeal is granted, the ticket will be voided. If your appeal is denied, you should pay the full amount of the ticket.
